DUNDONALD TOURNAMENT REVIEW

DUNDONALD TOURNAMENT REVIEW

The SoccerSixes.Org Easter Tournament took place at the Civil Service Club in Dundonald.   Over 100 children, coaches & parents had a very entertaining evening!

The tournament this year attracted teams from across Belfast & North Down area.  A new addition to the tournament allowed more children to get involved.

We had open teams that allowed children to simply turn up & pay as you go.  £5 per child offered a team, 2 hours of football along with a medal at the end of it.  This proved a massive hit filling 2 teams with children who had never played together.  With a mix of abilities it was great to see them work together as a team.

One child commented, 'This is the first team I have ever played for & I am so excited!'  This was a great new benefit to the tournament as it stops only the select amount of kids that are picked for a team to all children being able to play.

The format allowed the tournament to run smoothly - even with an uneven amount of teams.  With a number of pitches set up it always allowed the resting team an opportunity to play or train on the free pitch.

Every child that took part received a medal along with having loads of fun.  The tournament was played in terrific spirit that brought everyone together through football.

The 2001-1999 tournament kicked off with 12 teams participating.  Castle Juniors, Dromore Amateurs, Lower Maze & North Belfast United joined several Loughgall teams in the 12 team tournament.  After 3 group games each, the top 2 placed teams in each section progressed to the quarter finals along with the 2 best placed teams in third position.

After the exciting quarter & semi final games it was Lower Maze & North Belfast United who met in the final.  Lower Maze won a very close final & played some great football throughout the day.

The 1998-1997 tournament took place with 8 teams competing in 2 groups of 4.  It attracted teams from Bangor (COGS), Dromore (Dromore Amateurs) & Lisburn (Lower Maze.)  Irish League sides Glenavon & Loughgall completed the 8.

After 3 group games each team was seeded for the quarter final stage dependent on their group position.

After some very close knock out matches it was Loughgall & the home side Glenavon who progressed to the final.  The 2 sides played in a very highly entertaining final with the atmosphere increasing when the flood lights were switched on.  The only way the two teams could be separated was by the dreaded penalty kicks.  What an exciting end to a successful tournament.  Loughgall finished the winners lifting the trophy.

Advantage Young Business Award Winner 2009

Advantage Young Business Award Winner 2009

Thirty year old Tim Wareing of Castlereagh based TWSports.Org Mini Soccer Centres, has been recognised by Advantage NI and Invest Northern Ireland for being amongst the most successful and inspirational young entrepreneurs in the Castlereagh area.  Funded by Invest NI, Advantage NI celebrates the spirit of enterprise that is alive and kicking in young people aged 16-30.

TWSports offers children the opportunity to play football in a pressure free environment, and welcomes children from as young as two to sixteen to join in.  The business has been extended to reach children and coaches around the world by utilising their web based products.

Football has always been a passion and hobby for Tim Wareing.  Though it was after he completed his football qualifications and observed the lack of youth development in sport and football that he decided to put all his interests and energy into starting up his own business.

Tim’s business has a strong customer base and he believes this is down to the fact that parents know that their children will meet new friends, have fun and develop their skills with highly qualified coaches at an affordable price.  This Easter will be an exciting time for the soccer centre as TWSports welcomes Martien Pennings of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to deliver a coaching clinic for Northern Ireland coaches and children.

Sharon Polson of Invest NI’s Entrepreneurship Development Team, said: “By supporting initiatives which encourage our young entrepreneurs to further develop their ideas and grow their businesses, we can help increase the number and quality of locally-owned businesses, create wealth and strengthen the Northern Ireland economy.

“Many local young people have started successful businesses in recent years. These entrepreneurs are role models and it is important that they are recognised for their achievements.”

As TWSports goes from strength to strength Tim is still not content with stopping here, as he sets his sights high for the future of his business - just as any entrepreneur would!    He intends to continue the high standards he has set for child and coach development in Northern Ireland but he also aims to franchise his product further afield.  He would even one day love to own his own indoor arena.  With ambition like this it is easy to see why TWSports has been awarded an Advantage Young Business Award.

If like Tim, you are under thirty one and are running your own business, or, if you are simply interested in finding out more about starting your own business, Advantage NI wants to hear from you. Advantage NI provides start up support and guidance specifically for young people aged 16-30 through a suite of programmes including Business Boot Camp, Ignite, The Big Idea and The Advantage Young Business Awards and what’s more, they’re all free. It attracted teams from Larne (Larne Youth) & Banbridge (Banbridge Juniors) as well as local boys club sides; Ards Youth, Bloomfield, Knockbreda, St Mary's & Newbridge.
