DUNDONALD TOURNAMENT REVIEW

DUNDONALD TOURNAMENT REVIEW

The SoccerSixes.Org Easter Tournament took place at the Civil Service Club in Dundonald.   Over 100 children, coaches & parents had a very entertaining evening!

The tournament this year attracted teams from across Belfast & North Down area.  A new addition to the tournament allowed more children to get involved.

We had open teams that allowed children to simply turn up & pay as you go.  £5 per child offered a team, 2 hours of football along with a medal at the end of it.  This proved a massive hit filling 2 teams with children who had never played together.  With a mix of abilities it was great to see them work together as a team.

One child commented, 'This is the first team I have ever played for & I am so excited!'  This was a great new benefit to the tournament as it stops only the select amount of kids that are picked for a team to all children being able to play.

The format allowed the tournament to run smoothly - even with an uneven amount of teams.  With a number of pitches set up it always allowed the resting team an opportunity to play or train on the free pitch.

Every child that took part received a medal along with having loads of fun.  The tournament was played in terrific spirit that brought everyone together through football.

The SoccerSixes.Org Easter Cup 2009 proved a massive hit at Glenavon's Mourneview Park on Monday 6 April.

With 20 teams entering the tournament, over 160 boys & girls were present on the magnificent surface of Mourneview Park.  Joined by their managers, coaches & the massive support in the stands well over 300 people were present to enjoy a fantastic evening of football.

The 2001-1999 tournament kicked off with 12 teams participating.  Castle Juniors, Dromore Amateurs, Lower Maze & North Belfast United joined several Loughgall teams in the 12 team tournament.  After 3 group games each, the top 2 placed teams in each section progressed to the quarter finals along with the 2 best placed teams in third position.

After the exciting quarter & semi final games it was Lower Maze & North Belfast United who met in the final.  Lower Maze won a very close final & played some great football throughout the day.

The 1998-1997 tournament took place with 8 teams competing in 2 groups of 4.  It attracted teams from Bangor (COGS), Dromore (Dromore Amateurs) & Lisburn (Lower Maze.)  Irish League sides Glenavon & Loughgall completed the 8.

After 3 group games each team was seeded for the quarter final stage dependent on their group position.

After some very close knock out matches it was Loughgall & the home side Glenavon who progressed to the final.  The 2 sides played in a very highly entertaining final with the atmosphere increasing when the flood lights were switched on.  The only way the two teams could be separated was by the dreaded penalty kicks.  What an exciting end to a successful tournament.  Loughgall finished the winners lifting the trophy.

SoccerSixes.Org would like to thank all the teams for supporting the tournament.  The tournament was played in a terrific spirit & the football on show by the young players was refreshing to see.

Thank you to Glenavon Football Club for supporting the evening & of course allowing the use of Mourneview Park.  All children also received a medal for taking part in the tournament.  Thanks to the SoccerSixes.Org staff & to everyone who came down & supported the evening.

We are now planning for another tournament in the summer. Details will be posted on the website very soon!  Register your interest NOW by email.

LOUGHGALL WIN OLD SECTION, EASTER 2009

LOUGHGALL WIN OLD SECTION, EASTER 2009

Loughgall were crowned champions of the SoccerSixes.Org Easter Cup at Glenavon's Mourneview Park after a nail biting finish!

The tournament took place on Monday 6 April.  8 teams entered the 1997 / 1998 tournament.  2 groups of 4 teams played a European Cup based tournament.  The teams were then seeded for the quarter finals from each group.

Loughgall went on to win a very close final against Glenavon, but only after penalties.

Dutch Coach, Bert-Jan (BJ) Heijmans, commented, 'All finals must finish on penalties!  It adds to what already is a very exciting experience for the children.  I enjoyed watching the games; some very talented youngsters played some great football.'

BJ was present for an action packed week of coaching clinics & football fun for children aged 2.5-16.  He was joined by Paul Cooper from the Give Us Back Our Game Campaign & PSV Eindhoven's, Martien Pennings.

The tournament was played in great spirit & the football on show was of a very high level.  All teams, managers, players & parents are to be congratulated on their performance, behaviour & support.

Thank you must also go to Glenavon Football Club for the use of their fantastic facilities.  A great memory & experience to all players involved.
